5 Shoes Every Savvy Gentleman Should Own

Gentlemen

Good leather footwear is not a luxury reserved only for the rich, but a necessity for every man.

Before we unveil what these five essential shoes are, it’s important to understand how to choose good shoes in the first place.

We had the pleasure of working with Aldo Lipari, founder of ALODD at The Centrepoint, to find out more about the world of luxury men’s footwear.

Having worked for most of his life in the world’s most renowned luxury brands like Gucci, Armani and Bally, Aldo has become an expert in quality men’s footwear. He thus set-out to create his own brand, ALODD, which specialises in crafting authentic, stylish, 100{8f42e3536fa1e6f87f919a2e387db08d813e1f513d4d1296def18f34bd27beb4} Italian-made leather shoes for the modern and well-travelled gentleman.

He lets us in on some trade-secrets…

Tip 1: Do your research and find out how the shoes are crafted.

Aldo recommends that if you’re looking for quality shoes, get a pair that is crafted with pure Italian workmanship – this means crafted by experienced Italian craftsmen.

For Italians, shoe-making is truly an art form where every part of the process and each detail demands meticulous execution. Because of this, it takes years of devotion to truly master each technique.

Thus, most artisans would have gone through an extensive training process where they start learning their craft from a young age, where they were trained by an older artisan.

Every one of ALODD’s shoes are 100{8f42e3536fa1e6f87f919a2e387db08d813e1f513d4d1296def18f34bd27beb4} Italian made by Italian shoemakers with decades of experience.

Tip 2: Consider the material

Aldo explains that great shoes always start with the best, flawless leather hides. ALODD shoes, for example, are made with nappa and calf leather from Italy.

Their craftsmen use razor-sharp knives to hand-cut the shapes required to make the ‘upper’ of a shoe. These pieces are then stitched together to form the upper and nailed to a ‘last’, or plastic foot form, to mould the leather. Once the upper takes on the correct shape, the sole is attached.

Tip 3: Consider the comfort and functionality

Men’s shoes should always have three factors – quality, comfort and style.

At ALODD, where Aldo personally oversees the design process, the shoes are crafted according to the precise needs of the stylish world traveller. The well-designed leather uppers are great for work, formal events and fancy dinners, while the rubber and latex sole ensure non-slip, long-wearing comfort.

Tip 4: Good leather footwear is not a luxury reserved for the rich. But a necessity for every man.” ~ Aldo Lipari

For Aldo, the brand name or high price of a shoe does not always equate to quality.

“So forget about the brand for a moment, forget about silly catwalk fashion trends, and look closely instead at the craftsmanship, the fit and the comfort.”
