Are you performing the correct beauty rituals every day? The experts from Skinfood let us in on the ten things every girl should know for beautiful, radiant skin! Read on and don’t forget the SPF ladies!

After these months of hotter than usual weather and sinful festive eating, we head into spring with much need for skin restoration and repair. So we approached the experts at Skinfood for useful tips on how we busy bees can nurse our complexions back to optimum health! So here’s the 10 point beauty list for you to check off –

1. Start Simple
Before thinking of new beauty products to buy, the first thing you should do is focus on achieving clear and healthy skin.

Do this by first creating a simple skin care routine that’s easy to achieve every day. You could use a 3 to 4-step method that goes something like this: Cleanse, Tone, Serum/Essence, and Moisturise.

Next, work on reducing the layers of make-up, foundation and concealer you normally wear. Remember that your goal is to achieve a youthful and flawless look with as little make-up as possible.

2. Understand your skin type
Just like how we should dress for our body type, we also need to choose products designed for our skin type. Dry skin does not have the same needs as oily skin or combination skin.

If you have dry skin, use milder cleansers, avoid scrubbing and moisturise after showering. We recommend Skinfood’s Watery Berry Line. It contains hardy berries from Lapland, which by the way is located all the way in the northernmost region of the Scandinavian Peninsula! These Scandinavian berries plus the added hyaluronic acid help to promote soft, dewy skin.

For oily skin, use a gentle cleanser and exfoliate a few times a week. We recommend the Fresh Apple Sparkling Pore Line. If you tend to have a shiny nose and enlarged pores by midday, this is an indication of excessive sebum production which often results in enlarged pores and blackheads. While pore strips and blotting paper are great inventions, the Fresh Apple Pore Line will also help to keep sebum production in control, for matte pore-less skin.

For combination skin, we recommend the Premium Lettuce & Cucumber Line. It’s an ultra-hydrating skin care line that uses lettuce and cucumber extract to transform dry, lifeless skin into refreshed and soothed skin. It will also make your skin as soft as a baby’s bum! Although it’s super-rich in ingredients, it does not leave sticky residue nor feel too thick on the skin.

3. Think Clean
Leaving on your make-up dries out your skin and clogs pores which results in blackheads and breakouts! So remember to remove all make-up and cleanse the face thoroughly at the end of each day, and before exercise.

To be extra sure, wash your face with a facial cleanser once more after using a make-up remover. And take a rest from heavy makeup for at least one or two days a week – your skin needs a good weekend break too!

4. Delicate Contours
Did you know the contours around your eyes and lips are more fine, fragile and sensitive? They need specific care and cannot absorb normal facial moisturisers as well. So you might want to use an eye cream around the eyes to prevent oil seeds from forming.

5. Hydrate Your Lips
As soon as you feel your lips getting dry, use a restorative cream or a lip treatment on them. Do not hesitate to reapply as often as necessary because the lips are particularly fragile. Plus, crack lips really don’t look good on anyone!

Try Skinfood’s Tomato Lip Tint for a chic semi-gloss finish and a light, natural tint. Great for chapped lips, it’s especially moisturising and stays on even after a cup of coffee. Perfect for the busy working lady!

6. SPF Just in Case
We actually need SPF way more than we think, so choose daily skincare products that have SPF or apply a light SPF cream before your make-up. This reduces the harmful effects of the sun which accelerates skin ageing. Believe it or not, you should also use SPF products indoors and in the office too!

For a light and convenient solution, pop the Premium Tomato Cool & Dry Sun Mist SPF 50PA+++ in your bag and take it everywhere you go. High in Vitamin C ingredients, it also absorbs into the skin quickly without feeling oily or sticky. Its best feature is you can spray it over your make-up to keep your skin constantly hydrated and protected!

7. Water and Sleep
Seems like drinking more water and sleeping at least 7 hours a night doesn’t just help with weight loss, it also helps our skin cells regenerate! So get enough sleep, destress and hydrate as much as possible.

Did you know that our skin regenerates at the highest rate from 11pm to 3am the next day? So feed your skin a Vitamin C serum or any other anti-aging product at night for effective nourishment!

8. Exfoliate and Nourish
Try to exfoliate two to three times a week with a gentle scrub to remove dead skin and dirt. Skinfood believes in two types of exfoliation – mild exfoliation and normal exfoliation.

Mild exfoliation usually comes in the form of cleansers like Skinfood’s Black Sugar Scrub Foam or Rice Brightening Scrub Foam. These are great for deep cleansing every night especially after a long day spent outside and after removing your make-up.

Normal exfoliation usually come as masks which you should only use two to three times a week.

Exfoliators are great cleansing tools, but may cause your skin to dry out. So don’t forget to end each exfoliation with something hydrating like a sheet mask because your skin absorbs the most ingredients during post-exfoliation.
