Looking for something different that will wow your family and friends this Mid-Autumn Season?
Look no further, Regent Hotel has just the right mooncake gift set for you.
Regent Hotel’s mooncake packaging totally stands out from the norm. They have done away with run-of-the-mill paper bags and instead enveloped their mooncake box with a lush red felt carrier with lotus flower cut outs and lace trimmings.
And guess what, the felt carrier can be reversed and transformed into a Chinese chess game board. Yes the chess pieces come with the set!
Don’t know how to play Chinese chess? No worries, they have even included game instructions within, perfect for Chinese Chess noobs like us.
Of their many flavours, we went with their baked white lotus paste mooncake with single egg yolk and melon seeds ($42 for 2-pieces / $66 for 4-pieces).
The baked brown crust was not too thick and the white lotus paste had a good natural sweetness, balancing out the salted egg yolk well. The yolk was also moist and rich in flavour – which will definitely hit any yolk lover’s spot instantly!
You will also find the lotus paste smooth and not too oily, with melon seeds that adds a nice crunch to every bite!
Bonding with family over a game of Chinese chess while savouring delicious mooncakes under a bright, peaceful full moon somehow seems quite appealing, wouldn’t you say?
